Factum Arte and Marina Abramović have maintained a profound collaboration since 2013, focusing on translating her innovative concepts into tangible forms.
This partnership revolves around exploring deep themes like presence and absence, life and death, the ephemeral and the permanent. These themes are born from multiple visits to our workshop, where the fusion of her ideas and our cutting-edge technologies results in striking materializations. Working with Marina Abramović: In my role as a 3D sculptor at Factum Arte, I have the privilege of assisting Marina Abramović in realizing her creative vision and ideas.
This collaboration primarily involves the creation of digital renders for various museum, gallery, and commission proposals. These renders serve as pivotal bridge elements between conceptual visions and physical artworks, ultimately enriching the art world’s cultural tapestry. For instance, “Portal” was a remarkable manifestation of this synergy and found its place in the “Gates and Portals” exhibition at Modern Art Oxford in 2022. Additionally, I collaborate with Marina Abramović in capturing a series of 3D portraits using the Veronnica Chorographic Scanner. These 3D busts serve as the foundation for sculptural creations or a reimagining of her previous works, giving them new life and artistic significance. An excellent example of this transformation can be seen in the “Communicator” series, which evolved into its current form, displayed at the Royal Academy of Arts from September 23, 2023, to January 1, 2024. My involvement extends to the 3D modeling of limited edition small-scale sculptural pieces designed for Marina’s exhibitions. These exclusive artworks are a testament to our joint commitment to innovation and artistic excellence, with each piece reflecting Marina Abramović’s distinctive artistic identity.
Translating Ideas into Material Objects: The core of our collaborative process lies in Marina’s vision of exploring the invisible and immaterial aspects of existence, the exploration of presence and time, and the creation of profound, spiritual, and transcendent experiences for both the artist and the audience . Her ideas can initially manifest as pencil sketches, and my role is to bring them closer to reality. I transform these sketches into intricate digital renders by employing advanced 3D modeling techniques, texturing, and creating shaders. Through this technical alchemy, we bridge the gap between abstract notions and virtual reality, transforming Marina’s visionary concepts into tangible, material forms at Factum Arte´s workshops. To achieve this, I employ a combination of 3D modeling, intricate texturing, and the creation of shaders, all of which are integral in transmuting Marina’s visionary ideas into physical spaces that are capable of engaging and captivating audiences.
The interplay between technology and artistic expression in our collaboration serves as a testament to the fusion of creativity and innovation, bringing forth captivating exhibitions that challenge conventional boundaries. This experience not only enriches our artistry but also takes us into unexplored artistic realms where the intangible comes to life through creative rendering.
